Band Program

Pacific Hills Christian School Band Program

Pacific Hills has an extensive Band Program which flows through several streams: Vocal, Strings and Concert Band. We provide a place for students who are dedicated to their music to learn and perform, in order to honour God and bless others.

We have a MS & SS Choir which allows for students across the school to sing with each other. Our Choir is for students from Year 5 to Year 12. All students are welcome to join, including accompanying piano players. The Choir collaborates with our instrumental Groups throughout the year for a variety of performances.

We have three Strings Ensembles which cover from very beginners to those students who are quite skilled on their instruments.
The Beginner Strings is for students in their first few years of playing, from open strings to simple songs.
Intermediate Strings is for students who have a developing knowledge of their instrument and musicality, performing in harmonies and increasingly harder music.
Chamber Strings is our advanced ensemble who are keen to take their playing to the next level. The focus is on stylistic cohesion and exemplary performances.
It is an expectation that students in the String Ensembles are having private lessons to ensure continued improvement in their abilities.  Entrance to the String Ensembles is based on an audition organised through OneMaker Academy.

Our Concert Bands provide an opportunity for students to play in large ensembles, usually beginning in Year 3 to Year 12. – As students develop their performance skills they will progress through Concert Band 3 and Concert Band 2 to Concert Band 1.

Our Beginner Band is for students who have just started learning how to play their instruments and to read music. As students develop their instrument performing they will progress through Concert Band 3, Concert Band 2 to Concert Band 1. Concert Band 1 is for advanced students where we rehearse more intense works from a variety of different styles.
It is an expectation that any students in the Concert Bands are having private lessons to ensure the continue improving in their own abilities. Entrance into the bands are based on an audition organised through OneMaker Academy.

Our Jazz Band and Chamber Strings are by audition only for students who are playing in either the Concert Band 1 or Intermediate Strings Ensemble. These groups perform at a sophisticated level where students learn how to perform stylistically in a variety of styles.

Band membership details and expectations, information on instrument hire and private tution are available in the Ensembles Handbook.
